Speed and consumption claims are not always easy to handle. You may need to work hard and examine in detail in order to achieve satisfactory results.
Speed and consumption claims may:
- Cause loss of money
- Damage the owner’s reputation in the market which will affect owners’ position in the vessel’s next employment negotiations
- Jeopardize the relationship with the Charterer.
- If not solved smoothly, owners have to decide to arbitrate or not, which will cause additional costs.
- Stress and pressure on shipowner/master/office staff
- Additional and prolonged workload on office staff.
Our main aim is to prevent shipowners and ship managers from losing money and drowning under the additional workload and to assist them to keep good relations with charterers.
Our Success Rate
Every case depends on its facts. There are many variables such as calculation method, correct assessment of good weather days, vessel's speed and consumption warranties, charter party terms and attitude of charterers, even sometimes rate of hire. No two cases are the same.
As per our experiences in the past, overall we have an excellent success rate:
- We successfully rejected more than 70% of the claims.
- We reduced the claimed amounts by between 30% and 90% in most of the remaining claims.

How and When Do We Charge?
- Initial Calculation (Free of Charge): First of all, we review the claim documents and advise the vessel's actual performance (time & bunker lost/saved). We do not charge any fee for this initial calculation. It is totally free of charge.
- "NO CURE, NO PAY" Basis: We trust our experience, quality, and service. Therefore, we are working on a "NO CURE, NO PAY" basis. After receiving our initial calculations, if shipowners/managers appoint us to prepare our full report and calculation and if we manage to reduce the claim, we charge only 15% of the money saved (time and bunker). Otherwise, we do not charge any fee to our clients.
Therefore, we strongly suggest to all shipowners and managers to let us review the alleged underperformance claim and calculate their vessel's actual performance before they respond to charterers.
